I lived in the same house now as the betrothed couple, in fact until we came to an arrangement when we first moved in, Jeff shared my bed at night, not hers. But Ellen was well aware of my feelings for her fiancé. Her marriage to Jeff was just a convenience, to keep us all together. After all, I was the one who was madly in love with the groom. I was actually surprised she asked me to be at her wedding. ![]() After everything else that had gone wrong, I didn’t want to be the bridesmaid who looked on in complete resentment at the blushing bride.Įllen, the bride-to-be, was my little sister and my only family I had. It was going to be a really big day and it would have been nice to face it with a well meaning smile. The wedding was now less than a week away, so it might seem like I still had plenty of time, but I was supposed to meet the other bridesmaids for breakfast at 8:30 (which I could probably skip) and we had a hair and makeup session right after that (which I really couldn’t skip) and then we had to pick up the dresses, eat lunch with my sister, who had become a Bridezilla, then the wait for the date at the registry office. Once again, I checked the nightstand clock: 1:48 am. I thrashed restlessly in my bed, frustrated and unable to sleep. ![]()
